My 1963 9.8 prop is slipping on the rubber hub. I had thought this motor originally had a slip clutch assembly. I know the prop shaft was changed in the early 1980's by the previous owner (bent shaft). It now has a 6-spline shaft. Is this the same as the original shaft? Anyone know where I can get a new prop or the old one rebuilt. My local shop said they cannot get the six spline hub anymore. Thanks.

Re: 9.8 Mercury Prop

Rehubbing would cost about the same as a new prop anyhow. I don't think there were any alternative propshafts, so you probably will need pretty much what would've been originally available. That was a 7" 3-blade and a 9" 2-blade. I think there are more sizes available now, too.
