9.8 Waterpump question.....

I bought a 77- 110- (9.8)-HP..from a garage sale this past weekend....It ran good but wasnt pumping any water....So i got it at a good price... <br />Anyways....I took it apart to find the impeller almost non-existant....what else I found tho..I need help with...<br />Whoever took at apart before...put the Water Tube Guide in upside down..and the reason they done this is because (from what i can tell) the non-pointed end was facing down..because the other end was mis shaped from overheating....So my question is....is there somekind of water tube seal thats suppose to be inside the water tube guide...and can you buy those water tube guides...seperate...<br /><br />TY in advance

i bought a new water pump assembly through merc for my 9.8.around $68. has everything you need.be sure and pre lube your impeller and make sure that the key way is in place.when those plastic pump housings get over heated they warp.and you will not get enough water pressure.be sure and check the entire cooling system for pieces of the old impeller.

WIrED,<br /><br />Did you ever get to the end of this problem. I have just purchased a 9.8 and rebuilt the water pump the other night. I also had a bit of Damage to the water tube guide but it was not too bad. I managed to get the non pointed end into the water pump housing and everything seems ok. I will be putting the unit back together this evening as I was busy over the weekend and I was having a few problems getting the gear unit back together. Hopefully I have found the answer on this forum. Let me know how you got on. I will post another reply tommorow and let you know how things wend my end.<br /><br />Kev
