9.9 cam replacement

I have the chance to pick up a 9.9 at a good price, BUT, the cam gear, and looks like the top end of the camshaft broke off when the engine fell off its stand.
How hard is the cam to replace on these motors?

I am a pretty competent mechanic, and have rebuilt engines before, it's just a matter of wondering if it's worth it. I do not have the funds to just go out and buy a running motor, but have the time to repair.

Has no one here ever replaced a cam on a 9.9 or even R&R'd one? I'd really like to take a shot with this motor if the cam job is do-able by a home mechanic. Now if a bunch of special tools are required I can understand.
