I just bought a 9.9 1995 johnson short shaft. Put a bad tank to it and got crap in the carb... i rebuilt the carbs on a '74 50 horse and im hoping I can do tyhe same here... any helpful comments on how to go about it or what not to touch/ mess with would be greatly appreacited.
They said they just replace the carb before i bought it so the internals should be good? not need replacing?

thanks for any help

If you've already tackled the job before, it should be no big deal. I'd get a carb kit as long as I'm tearing it open - what the previous owner says and what he actually did may be two different things.

Re: 9.9 Carb Rebuild...?'s please help

Just got done doing this about two hours ago on my 1987 9.9 and it runs like a top now. I was given this link and found it very informative on the removal of the carb.. http://www.sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/OMC/OMC info.htm
as well as other service related things. This was the first outboard I have ever torn into and now I can have that carb out in literally 5 or so minutes. Good luck.
