part 17 is what I and my brother believe to be the problem.

I am looking for advice before I make any purchases or invest a lot of money into this motor. What are the possible causes for no spark on that one cylinder. All connection are good and tight, the points are set correctly and the motor looks to be in good shape.

Any info on this would be helpful thanks

did you change the condenser ? use an ohm meter to measure the coil primary resistance ( contacts open about 0.3 ohm ..wire in to earth) . and then measure the secondary HT lead to earth should show a few thousand ohms.. if either are open circuit ..get a new coil . if it checks out the fault is elsewhere

Cold you explain in a little more detail on how to do this. I am not very experienced with electronics. On my voltage meter, turn the setting into the ohm side 20K reading. I then put a wire into the ground and measure from the wire to the coils magnet? What is the secondary HT? Let me know if that sounds right.

thanks for your help I have always had trouble using a voltage meter.

Re: 9.9 Chrsyler 1980 outboard. No spark on one cylinder possible causes?

I just watched this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT8rk5QWgS0

And took my measurements similar to as he did. The primary on coil was 1.5 and the other was 1.2 at 200 Ohms but jumped around a lot, secondary was 6 ohms on each at 2000K. One of the coils have been replace before as there are 2 different types, the new one was a CDI model and the other one an original one i think. one was green(CDI) and the other gray.

From this video it seems my coils should be good unless i am misunderstanding something? Will take a look at the points next. An more advice thanks everyone
