first off i am new to outboards and just purchased this motor the guy said it has sat in his garage for a few years but it ran fined:)i have a 9.9 and when i run it it seems to run fine but in the garbage can full of water there is oil that floats to the top after it sits for awhile after running the motor and shutting it off. . it is like a brown milky mud. almost smells like gear oil. where the prop is there is a hole in the center for the nut that holds it on i think it is coming out of there. and i also have another question. is there sapose to be water coming out of the back of the motor t wards the bottom of the lower unit where the shift rod comes out of the power head to the lower unit there is a small gap around 1/2 in ? thanks i hope someone can help have fun

The oil the garbage can may just be unburnt oil from the exaust. You can always check your gear oil for water buy draining a small amount out of the gear case. If it is milky then you have a leak, if it's black then you need to change it, if there's chunks of metal..... you get the idea.....

The Prop shaft is solid. It can't leak oil like that.

The water coming out of the leg above the lower unit is normal. It's just water draining out of the exaust housing.
