I have a 9.9 1988 Gamefisher by force model #225.581990

My question is when in neutral alot of water comes out of the "idle relief ports" but when put in gear little to none at any rpm, and water level, i had run this motor on the same boat before and never really checked the idle relief while running but the motor sat for a couple years so i changed the impeller and seals just wondering if this is normal on this motor or do i need to fix something.

thanks in advance.

If the motors been run in salt water it might need to be cleaned out.
For some reason people never flushed these little guys out.
There isin't any presure relief system.
So I'm gonna say the water goes to the least resistant area out the exhaust.

If you run it and can touch the heads without burning it's cooling ok.

Re: 9.9 gamefisher by force question

Hi, FL boy. Even though your outboard appears to have been made by Force we don't treat it as a Force outboard. We categorize outboards by the brand name on the cowling. Gamefishers are discussed in the Other Outboard Brands forum. You should get more and better replies in that forum. I will moved this for you.

Good luck. :)
