9.9 johnson won't shut off

Here's the scoop. 1993 9.9 hp Johnson outboard. Starts up and runs perfectly. Once running, can't get the motor to shut off. Kill switch isn't working. So I went through and checked all the grounds. Everything is good there. I have a new powerpack sitting on the shelf, so I decided to swap it out to check, makes no difference. All that is left is the actual kill switch assembly. Right? Just wanted to make sure I'm not overlooking something else before ordering the part. Is there any other possibilities? Thanks.

Use an ohm meter to check the switch.

if powerpack stop circuit is faulty you won't stop the motor

does your stop switch circuit have the screw connector where it attaches to the kill wire from the powerpack?...if so, just unsrew the connection and clip a jumper wire onto the pp side, start the motor, then ground the other end of the jumper. Does this kill the engine? Handle the jumper with caution as there's gonna be ~220v on that wire. If the motor dies, the stop switch circuit is faulty. If it doesn't, there's a fault in the pp.

I fooled with a stop switch on a 1990 9.9 that intermittently caused a no start condition. As I recall, the round terminal end on the ground wire required an odd size crimp on connection if you end up having to fool with it.

I'm waiting until the weekend to get it back, I'm working on it for a friend. However I did say that I already literally swapped powerpacks with a brand new one, and it didn't make a difference. Can't i therefore at least assume that besides the grounds there is no other thing causing this not to shut off besides the kill switch assembly?

if you ground the wire from the pp to the kill switch and the motor dies, then the powerpack isn't the problem....as Daviet stated, use an ohm meter to check the kill switch..that lanyard key/start key only moves the contacts in the kill switch itself a very small amount and if it's getting worn < the switch > there's no adjusting it as far as I could tell and a new one was on the pricey side
