9.9 Merc only runs with choke on full

My 1995 9.9HP merc 2 stroke will only idle or run below 1500 RPM with Choke on full. Above 1500 it runs with choke off. Also, I must manual choke to start the thing. Any solutions? I did have a fuel problem in the past (some kind of slimy contaminant that clogged the filter). <br /><br />------------------

Did it work properly last time you used it?<br />It sounds to me that the idle cicuit is clogged.

I have a very similar problem with my 9.9 Suzuki. Did you ever find the problem? If so, any details would be greatly appreciated.
