I have a 2000 9.9 Merc and I have plenty thottle in forward but very little in reverse. What and how do I adjust to have more thottle in reverse? It goes into reverse fine, but it has just a little above idle when you give it more gas to back-up.

Ok, now I know that there are a lot of smart people on this forum and I can not believe that not one of you guys or gals know how to adjust the thottle on a little motor. It is on a 24' pontoon and I just need more gas in reverse to get off the bank sometimes. Come on you people, someone has got to know.

Re: 9.9 Merc thottle

As i recall the 9.9 merc as most motors have a neutral lock out to limit throttle response . sounds to me like the throttle linkage needs to be adjusted, unhook the shifter linkage make sure the controls are in the neutral position ,and the engine is also ,if the cable doesnt align up then screw the adjuster till it does. That should fix er!!!!!!!!!!Has it always done this or just start???????Mr.Bill OH NO!!!!!!!

It has done this since new out of the box. It just acts like it is not moving the thottle enough in reverse. Thanks
