I have a 1996 Mercury 9.9 with less then 20 hours on it. The problem I am having is that when the engine is cold it will start and run for about a hour then it dies and won't start. I have checked the spark and there is none. If I let the engine sit for a day or two it will start again and run for awhile and will die again with no spark. HELP Please. Thanks Bob

It sure sounds as though something it heating up and failing in one of the electrical components. It then cools off after sitting and works again, til it gets hot! I am not familiar with the Merc. Motor that you have, but I'm sure others will have some ideas! Good Luck,

The stator is faulty, replace it. You can test with an ohm meter, but this is not always reliable. You need a DVA peak voltage meter. There must be a minimum of 180 volts from the stator. Mercs have a real achilles heel in the stator dept. <br />Regards, Paul
