9.9 Mercury won't start or power trim

I have a 2005 9.9 mercury four stroke kicker. All of a sudden it goes from running great to turning the key and no response. When it happens it won't power trim, won't turn over, won't do anything. Really sucks when it's in the down position and I need to power up with the big motor. If I wait about 30 to 40 minutes it all of a sudden will work like nothing was wrong. This has happened 2 times now leaving me out in the big water with my kicker trimed down and I can't run up to speed. When I do have it running, it does NOT die or act up at all (runs great) and the trim works great. When it wouldn't start I probed some power (red) wires inside the motor and they show around 12 volts.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would check the voltages coming in and out of your stop switch before anything. Sometimes moisture or salt can get inside those switches easily and cause premature failure of the switch

Why i say this is because sometimes after the switch has dried out or vibrated the sitting corrosion off it wants to work again with no problems....which sounds similar to you having no problems with your motor after a little while

Why would the stop switch keep the motor from trimming up or down? When it won't start I can't trim the motor either. I get absolutely no response?
