9.9 Mercury won't stay running at idle

Motor seems to start fine and runs well other than it won't idle. If i pull the choke out that seems to help a little as well working the primer. Otherwise it will sputter and die out.

This is an older motor that has seen only occasional use for years but was service prior to last season.

It most likely is the carb, The little brass tube that runs in front of the trottle plate if clogged or if it has a small hole(pin size) will make it not idle. An old school merc mechanic that knows 100 times more than me explained this to me just last week.

Simple check. Make sure the vent on your fuel tank is clear.
Fuel filter been replaced?
Idle mixture set wrong with the carb. also carb could be dirty.
Faulty fuel pump would be thing to check, last.
