9.9 not drawing fuel

I have recently added a kicker to our boat - a 2000 yamaha 9.9 with remote control. I ran a 1/4 inch fuel line from the main boat tank to the kicker. It runs great for 4-5 minutes, then dies. The bulb seems to empty out and when I re-prime it, it runs again for another 5 minutes then dies.

I am wondering if the gravitational pull is too much for the little baby. It rises about 2'6" from tank to connection on outboard. The tank is vented so won't create a vacuum.

I'm pretty sure the 1/4 inch line is big enough but correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

Any thoughts on why it is not sucking enough gas?

3' is alot to pull gas...

i was having issues with my outboard and we raised the tank and it would run great...
lower it down and it would die...

also what length is your hose... to long and it's unable to pull also...

Look in the frequently asked question part of the forum at testing fuel system.
Sounds like it may be sucking air into the system

Re: 9.9 not drawing fuel

I suspect the length of hose (8-9') and gravitational pull are at least some of the issue. I'll try it on a portable tank at different heights and see what happens. If that doesn't work, I'll try the other options.

I'll report back when I've figured it out (or not).

Thanks for all the ideas, guys. :)
