1993 9.9 Merc motor ran great(at lake), brought boat back home. Decided to change plugs. At next outing, it started hard and ran bad (hardly moved boat). Checked plugs, top one looks like a normal firing plug, bottom plug looked clean(like just out of the box).<br /><br />1. Screwdriver in plug wire test good spark.<br />2. Top plug color "good"<br />3. Bottom plug "clean, just like new"<br />4. Rotated coils, No fix<br />5. Changed plugs, No fix<br /><br />Not sure what to check next?

Re: 9.9 one plug to clean

Water can wash a spark plug clean...I like to run the motor a while..then pull both plugs and shake them onto the palm of my hand...to see if water droplets appear...a weak coil can show spark OK but fail under load..An easy way is to switch coils..the correct way is to check the voltage at each oil...That requires a special voltmeter...DVA....Al..
