I just bought a 1980 Johnson seahorse outboard. The motor ran fine when I bought it, but I didn't notice how the guy started and stopped it. It has no switch. Can anyone give me an idea where to find a start / stop switch and how it gets hooked up? Model is J10ELCID , serial is E5523680.
thanks

Thanks for the info. Any help on where the wires go? Is there a hrness end somewhere that it plugs to? What makes it an 81? The guy I bought it from said it was a mid 90s. I didn't know any better. My loss.

No switch, just a hole in the motor baseplate where the switch would go. Start is 2 leads with pins on them pigtailed out of the baseplate. I would like to install a kill switch, but I don't know where the wires will go.

I forget just which article has the electrical diagrams, but if you search in
"LeeRoy's Ramblings" (a Great source if info on these motors), you can find
both the electrical diagrams, and an alternative stop switch that only costs
about $12, instead of the $40-50 for the "official" switch. All you need to
do is ground out the ignition, so a simple momentary contact switch works
fine.
