MY Winner 18' CC has a 115 Suzuki. I am not one for speed and just fish the harbors not to far from the ramp. Would an 90 hp etec do the trick? Boat weighs in at 1800 dry.

The rule of thumb for acceptable performance is no less than 75% of the boats maximum rated HP. If it's rated for a 150 for example, you would not want less than a 115 -- especially if your average load might be considered on the "heavy" side. I've been down that road and the frustration with the lack of power is simply not worth the savings you think you have. Besides, a small motor running it's guts out just to stay on plane may burn more fuel than a bigger engine that's loafing. You also have a boat that might be in less demand because of the engine size when it comes time to sell it.

Is the 115 a 2 stroke or 4 stroke? What speed and rpm at wot.(Wide open throttle)? As suggested 75% of rating is the minimum reccomended.
