I have a 1991 force L-drive and it won't start. HAs always fired in the past. Lately the tach has quit working and the baterry gauge is showing that it is not charging. Now it just won't start.

Your voltage rectifier/regulator has failed. That is why it won't charge the battery and why the tach is not working.

Have you tried jump starting it? Say with your car battery hooked up via cables? That would be a place to start troubleshooting. Sorry Roscoe, I didn't see your post before I put my 2 cents in. Your advice makes a lot more sense.

I put a new battery in it and it still will not start, does that mean the stator is out or is it the rectifier
