I have a 1990 Bayliner capri with a Force 90 HP L drive, I want to change the powerhead. I would like to know if any powerhead off of any Force outboard will fit. I seen several Force outboards(no L drives)on ebay for a very fair price. Please help.
Some say it will and some say it needs to be the same size motor and it will and some tell me only L drive PH will work.

Re: 90 HP Force L drive Interchange

Welcome to iboats rrgenter.

I know there were some minor differences in the powerheads themselves.
I know this question has popped up before, and a few guys were going to try non l drive powerheads, but don't know if they ever followed thru, or what the results were.

I believe you will have to swap some parts, like the exhaust adaptor plate, to get it to work.

If you try it, please let us know how it worked out, and what if anything you had to do, to get it to work.

That is how this place fills the archives, and passes info on to new posters.

I think it is definitely worth a shot, if your drive unit is in good shape.

The only other option is to gut out the engine, rebuild and reinforce the transom, and hang an outboard back there.

The mercruser parts site has nice parts exploded view. Compare part #'s and see what will interchange.

Dave
