I HAVE A JOHNSON 90 I ALWAS HAFE TO KEEP CHOCKING IT AT LOW SPEED JUST PAST IDLE ON HAFE TO FULL SPEED RUNS LIKE A NEW MOTOR CAN ANYONE HELP ME

sounds to me you need to go though the carbs and get the jets along with the rest of the parts in the carbs clean and varnish or dirt dustn old fuel remains out. Use some good carb cleaner and lots of compressed air turn the pressure on the tank up high so you get a good strong force though all the jets. good luck I like those motors alot have a few and rebuilt alot for work and play later loudawg with LD's marine

thanks for the help, i'll try and then let you know the out come of it,one more thing will 115 johnson carbs fit this motor my friend has a new set for me if they will work

go to brp evinrude , diagrams parts list and find part numbers. we don't know the years of either engine.

You could also have a water leak. I have a 90 hp evinrude that had the same symptoms and the cause was a faulty exhaust cover gasket--water was getting into the bottom 2 cylinders, causing it to idle poorly and start hard after wamring up.

I have the same problem with a boat I just bought no low idle stalling out but great high idle and up. prob is cant lower idle enough to put into gear safely without stalling. I've pulled carbs and they are spotless. guy I bought boat from said he was a boat mechanic and he had bored the a larger size and replaced carbs. does possibly the timing need need different setting now than 28 degrees btdc as listed in manual?
