90 hp rude (PEEING)

I have a 1998 90 hp rude with a brand new waterpump. I pees out both exhaust holes and the hole coming out of the exhaust plate like no tomorrow! However when i put it in gear it only pees out the exhaust hole. Is this normal? as soon as i put it back in nutureal it pees out all three holes again. I was told when put into gear the water exits through the prop. is this correct?

the ports on the back of the leg, are idle relief ports, as there is not enough exhaust pressure to force it out the prop. when you give a little throttle or the prop turns, the exhaust goes thru the prop. the tale tell on the rear starboard side of the lower cowl, is an indicator that the water pump is pumping water, but it is NOT an indicator that the Thermostats are opening and cooling the motor.
