I started the boat dry and it backfired bending the ride plate. I removed it, straightened it and re-installed it. The boat will still only barely plane (maybe 15mph) and more throttle just makes the engine rev with no additional grab. How straight and sealed does this ride plate need to be? Do I just need to do it again or do I have another problem? Thanks for this board, it's always a big help

Did you get any help to your question about the ride plate seal? If so please pass it on to me, how straight and well sealed does it need to be? colkrtz@sc.rr.com

The ride plate must be very sealed and very tight. A new rideplate gasket is about $50, but it can be a bear to install. Also, the clearances between the impeller and the wear ring should be minimized. The tighter the better.

good luck,

fp
