Hello All, I have a 1988 90 hp Yamaha. The power trim unit is working but I have the normal corrosion on the motor which I have on order to replace. I have also seen some very small amount of fluid leaking. Can anyone tell me is there a rebuilding unit for this power trim? If not can anyone make some recommendations? Is this job within the capabilities of a average handy person. The motor replacement does not area to be all that difficult but I don't want to get in over my head with the rest of the unit. I would like to give it a try because the it seems the Yamaha units are much more expensive compared to the other manufactures. Thanks in advance for your reply....

Re: 90 hp Yamaha Power Trim

I just recently had the factory PTT repaired on mine, (1988 90ELTG) It has spent most of its life in saltwater on the coast. I had noticed some fluid leaking from the 2 slow speed rods. I had also noticed a squeaking when I operated the PTT. Prob due to low fluid. I think the shop just ordered new seals and such. You can look on yamaha parts website for the parts. Not sure if its something you want to do yourself due to the small parts. It cost me about 250$ for the job plus parts @89$ per hr here in TX. First time I have had an issue with the PTT, I think 23 years is a pretty good considering a life of saltwater use.
