If it is new, it will be under warranty. The new engines are no longer simple carbed two-strokes with magneto ignition. They have progressed to be as complicated as any auto engine. I haven't heard of any design issues. If Mercury or any manufacturer were making bad products, they would be out of business soon. OMC is proof of that
