Need a little help please. Was on the lake yesterday engine started first time as always maneuvered about 3 miles fished 30 minutes boat would not start again & hasn't since. I cannot find my engine hand book at this time and wondered if someone can tell me what 3 beeps signify as this was occurring when trying to turn engine over.
Engine: 2007 mercury 90 optimax, kill switch not the issue (unless switch contact worn), 2/3 of oil in tank & full tank of fuel. Managed to get boat to marina but they were as stumped as me....which isn't saying much!! they boosted battery to ensure enough battery to start engine....no success. Wondered if easy/semi-easy home fix or is this a mechanics job?

Re: 90 optimax

Try checking fuel/water seperater and oil res level. These 3 beep and 4 beep codes are an enigma.Could also be a TPS sensor (throttle position sensor)....technology huh.

Just went to storage to look for manual and decided to try engine again..................and boy after a couple of seconds it start up!!!!
Is this indicative of a battery and/or alternator issue?

Not if the marina jumped the battery in their attempt to start it. Since engine operations are controlled by an ECU (engine control unit) you would need a diagnostic cable and software to analyze what's going on with the engine. However, The fact that it started for you says something is intermittent. So try unplugging every connector you can find, check it carefully and then connect and disconnect it several times to burnish the contacts. See if that helps. If not, then you need the help of a service facility.

Well good news I'm back the water, it turned out to be a bad battery.
