There is an orange wire directly to the starter or it goes thru a square plastic looking fuse block. connected to the starter. Either the wire is off/ broken or the 90A fuse is bad in the plastic block.
Did you confirm the no charging with a meter connected directly to the Alt feed stud or the battery
Is there 12V at the alt feed stud.

Ok ...I will try that next ...what are the.chances of a new alt being bad also....I think this has been an ongoing problem. this was my dad's boat and every couple times we took it out it would lose volts on gauge. the battery cables been replaced the starter has been replaced now battery run dead again so the alternator was replaced and still no charging. I'm not wondering if there has not been any charging the whole time we are going to check the orange wire as you suggested also wondering if completely eliminating the orange wire and running a new wire between a starter and alternator output might help. Thank you for your advice this far as I'm about ready to sink this thing. Looking at records for boat in three years there has been three starters and two alternators including this one...as well as three batteries. Aaarrggghhh

You must have 12v at the output stud, this indicates your connected to the battery. If you don't, find out why.
For testing you can connect a wire from the alt output stud directly to the battery, turn the key to "ON" read the battery voltage eg: 12.6. Start the engine and the reading must be greater . This indicates a charge .
