90 to replace a 135?

Hi there,

Just got a 88 18' Searay with a blown 135. I've got a good running 90 on my 86 16' boat. I guess my question is how sluggish would the 90 be on the 18'? It can pull a wakeboarder decent enough on the 16', but I'm not so sure on a larger 18'. A bigger outboard or rebuilding the 135 is on my to do list but anything that says outboard on it (be it repair or new or used) is sooo expensive and i want to run our new boat...

What is the max HP rating of the boat? Ideally you would like to be within 2/3 of it. If this is a temp situation and you plan to fix/replace that V6, they why not try it.

The plate says 145 is the max. I intend to put a 150 on there. 145x.66=95.7, so it would be just shy of the 2/3 mark. I havent heard the 2/3 thing before, is it legit?
