90 Tohatsu alarm when in gear

I recently installed a used M90A tohatsu on my pontoon. It had been sitting for a couple of years prior to my purchase. I cleaned to carbs and it fired right up. The problem is that the alarm sounds in the remote control when I put it in gear (forward or reverse) even if it is not cranked. The alarm does not sound in neutral. Any ideas?? PLEASE The trim and gauges seem to work fine. It goes in and out of gear fine. I have the Clymer manual for the engine but could not get any ideas. Also do you trust the oil injection on these engines? I have a M40C with no injection that has run flawlessly for more than 12 years. Thanks in advance.

Will it start in gear? I'm thinking you might have mixed up a wire from the neutral safety switch and the alarm.

Hello,<br /><br />The engine has a water pressure sensor that you can adj on the side of the engine if it set to sensitive. But, the most frequent reason is that the cooling system or impeller has degraded from use. You need to check the waterpump 1st, if that is not the problem check the thermostat, cylinder head passages, temp sender and water pressure sensor in that order.<br /><br />Elvin<br />InternetOutboards<br />AvalonProGrp

tohatsu? I have a 1990 nissan ns90a. the other day while cruising at WOT the motor suddenly lost power and kicked up. I was able to restart with no problem cruise 80% just fine. Once i got up to WOT for about 50 yards ...same thing loss of power motor kicks up like i trimmed up. Also the water is exiting the ports perfectly water is not hot coming out but yet my alarm stays on once i put it in fwd..until i keep bumping it forward til it finally stops. Also with the muffs on as soon as i put it in gear the alarm sounds i have no clue where the sensor is please help. I have one of the few boats made by nissan that is still immaculate and running. 16ft 1989 bass boat.

My '92 Nissan 90 did the same thing, several times. Just got it back from my mechanic, he says my carbs were ridiculously fouled up and my water pressure sensor needed adjusting. He says it's running great now but I haven't had time to put it in the water to test it since I picked it up last week. The mechanic is the most highly respected guy in the area so I'm optimistic that it'll be fine.

LSUfan ...Thanks for the message I just come back from lunch..while at home I poured seafoam into the tank and let it run for about ten minutes. the can doesn't really get specific on directions. I would like to consider myself mechanically inclined so I thought I would try this before I dissambled the carbs. I am still looking for that dang sensor. By the way ..the Lord will forgive you for being a tiger fan if you ask ...Repent NOW...go VOLS.
