90hp chrysler no spark

I have a 90hp 1983 chrysler with model#908v3b. On first startup of this newer motor it ran for about 3-4 minutes. Turned off to hook up water to lower unit and would not restart. I am assuming that the stator / trigger controls spark to the cd unit ? Can either one of these be checked with a ohm / volt meter, or do I need to buy a DVA adapter for this ? Any suggestions ?
