I have a 1997 90hp force ser#oe2219**** . Changed flywheel because old one decided to come apart. Now it will not run. Checked timing with light and found #1 cyl firing 120 degrees btdc, #2 cyl firing when #1 piston is tdc. #3 firing where it's supposed to. Changed trigger assy same firing order. Checked flywheel, is the same as old one. Checked stater, ok. No wiring was changed when flywheel was changed. I'm up the creek and no paddle.

Re: 90hp flywheel

The timing?? Is the throttle advanced all the way when checking?
The flywheel key might have slipped?
The wrong flywheel(pics)?

Re: 90hp flywheel

Very likely you have a 2 cylinder flywheel. The two and three cylinder flywheels look exactly the same externally but the key is in a different position. Look closely and compare your old and new. OOPS! I was thinking early Force! Never mind!

The trigger assembly is the same for two and three cylinder engines. HOWEVER: On the trigger it gives instructions for placement on two and three cylinder engines. It is different for each one. I was saying trigger but meant stator and carrier assembly as shown in these two photos. And, double check the flywheel it is possible that you have the incorrect one. People like to thing that just because they look alike they are alike and will swap onto different engines.--Yeah, sometimes the factory does that to save money, like on the stator and carrier. Less inventoy to maintain. But sometimes they do not.

Flywheels are same part # identical in every way. Like I said, no wiring was taken loose when changing flywheel. Is there a possibility that the timing magnet has changed positions on the flywheel that I put on the motor? Also this motor has CDM ignition, those also checked out ok.

Re: 90hp flywheel

Look at the key ways on both flywheels. Do they line up the same in relation to the timing marks on the edge of the fly wheel?

Whats the firing order for this engine? Still firing 120 degrees to soon.

Re: 90hp flywheel

Couldn't find what caused the problem, but fixed by switching around wires from triggers to cmd's. The only thing I could think that would have caused the problem is that the trigger magnet on the replacement flywheel was out 120 degrees.
