i have seen tons of threads for motors not peeing, i did a search and nothing pulled up, didn't want to ask same old questions over and over. But i have a 90 inline and it finally ran for a sec or 3 tonight, noticed no water coming out of pee hole. did have water hose hooked up but not wide open, would that make a difference. or do i need to look else where for larger problem and what or how to fix not peeing? thanks for everyones help getting engine to run!!!

It takes more than just a few seconds of running to fill the entire block and get water out of the telltale.

If you feel the water discharge coming out of the prop when the motor's running, and it's warmer than what's going in, water is circulating through the block. Also feel the exhaust cover (large, flat cover on the Port side of the engine). It'll get hot very quickly if water is not circulating thru the powerhead.

So, you see there's a few ways to determine, in the absence of a telltale, whether you have water flow.

Your telltale may just be plugged up or merely not running long enough to see flow. You can give the telltale a blast of compressed air and this will usually clear any obstructions. Severe cases may require pulling the hose off the telltale and maybe even the powerhead, to check for blockage.

When you're running on the flusher, apply enough water pressure to spill a bit of water past the muff 'ears'.

Once you start the motor, the spillage should diminish, indicating that the pump is pulling in water. Turn the water pressure up a bit more, so that with the motor running, a bit of water spills past the ears.

This will ensure that the suction side of the water pump is positively flooded.

HTH & let us know what you find........ed

ok didnot know that, not great at all the termonology! [s [t better just to go ahead a put new water pump in to be safe. the motor haden ran in the better part of 2years, dad says a new water pump, it a little bit of insurance, so you know its all new,and not hoping it will work. he has burnt a smaller engine up once, i guess he is just gun shy, but i don't want to have to buy or put in new if old aint broke!!

Some people change the water pump impeller every 1 or 2 years...

If you have the money then go ahead and do it!

Then you don't have to worry about it...

well got my pee'er working, (yes the boat) it had some dirt in tall-tale or pee hole. ran some water through it and a wire tie to clean more dirt/mud and more water. then next night woke all the folks around me up. had to run it to make sure the pee hole was cleaned out. i don't want to spend money to put in water pump, but also don't want to burn up lower unit.

Re: 90hp inline 6 mariner not peeing

Gent's I need your help!!! I have 100HP 1991 4 cylinder Mariner that does not pee. I have pulled out the thermostat and replaced the impeller and still no pee. I even pulled out the pop-it valve and ran it with out it. Still no pee. The motor runs cool on the muffs and idles all day without getting hot, but no pee ever comes out. I did get it to pee out the little hole in the pop-it valve, thermostat cover when they were not in, but the cover was on. So what gives????
