90hp lower unit swap

I have a 1991 90hp Johnson. I bent to my output shaft and sheared off most of the skeg this last summer (hit a BIG rock in Canada). Seems easier to replace the whole lower unit than fix the old one. Will a lower unit from a 1995 115hp fit on my 90hp. Looks like it would, but wanted to check with the experts.

Thanks for the help.

Re: 90hp lower unit swap

Yes, it will work. If the 95 unit is from a 60* 115 you'll have to use your shift shaft. If it's from a 1995 crossflow 115, the shift shaft is the same.

The biggest difference will be the driveshaft O ring is in the crank on a 1995. On you'rs the driveshaft O ring is on the driveshaft. Basically you'll end up with no d/s O ring. Just use a good water-proof grease on the splines and you'll be fine. It won't hurt to drop the lower each year and re-grease.
