90hp Merc Performance

After winterizing my 2000 Mercury 90 hp motor last year, I started it with muffs in the drive this spring. All went well. I put it in the water the following weekend and could not get the same speed or rpm's I got last year. I had a full tank of gas that was stablized and the motor fogged. Starting the motor in the drive was fine and in the water. My problem is I can only get about 4000 rpms now when I could get about 5200 rpms last year. Any ideas how to recover lost rpms's, plugs, fuel filter, ???<br />Thanks

Hey toonman,<br />Check your plugs....could be fouled after fogging and ensure your using FRESH fuel. Hope this helps. <br />Backlash

I would run compression check and check plugs at same time. Then I would make sure all carbs were flowing fuel. Something is definately wrong with a RPM loss of that much.

You guys are not goint to believe the answer to this one. I am a new boat owner (Newbie) and when I muffed the motor and started the engine in the drive, I did not look under the cover. I couldn't tell it was only hitting on two cylinders. I couldn't even tell it when I put it in the water. Once I started to replace the spark plugs, I took the cover off and found that the mechanic who fogged it last winter left off a spark plug wire. Guess that would really affect performance, duh!!<br /><br />The big lesson here is to inspect your boat whenever you get it back from the service center....
