I was at the Toronto Boat Show and heard alot of talk by reps and sales people.
I heard that a 75hp has the same hole shot and is the same in all ways, except in top end speed, to a 90hp of the same kind. Is this true?

As I do alot of trolling - Will the fuel burn be the same at 2 to 15 mph?

Is it true that the top end would be about 3 to 5 mph faster with the 90hp?

The boat, if it matters, is a Crestliner Fish Hawk 1750 Tiller.

Re: 90HP vs 75HP

Depends on make and model.

2 motors that use the same prop, gearbox, and run the same rpm, should be about equal in the top end, provided that neither are underpowered for the load. But the higher hp motor should be able to use a prop with one or two more inches of pitch, which should give you a bit more top speed.

But since you will be using it for trolling, you might be using a lower pitched prop to get your boat to troll slow enough.

Too many variables out there to make a generalization. Setup, carb vs efi vs di vs e-tek, cu. cc, tuning, gearing, number of cylinders, etc.

Each will boast that they are the best in all areas.

SO after saying all that, I am of no help at all!! Sorry

Re: 90HP vs 75HP

Sorry, I'll try to be more clear.

I tried to leave motor names out because they seem to raise the blood pressure in some

The reps we talked to were from Yami and Bomb.
The motors were - Yami 90HP vs Yami 75HP and the ETEC 90 vs 75 ETEC.

All things being the same( prop, load, boat, weather, out of the box) I ask the Qs agian.

I am most interested in is, if the related motors will have the same fuel burn while we are trolling.
I love the look we get when ripping at 15mph with rods out :)
