Hello everyone my father has a force 40hp and it started running crappie and now won't start.. I have traced it to the coil not getting spark but have not went beyond that. Any information would be great thank you in advance.

1. You can test the coil, theses two places show you how.
A. Outboardignition.com
B. cdielectronics.com find your coil scroll down for how to test it.

2. We have a 125hp and it has a CDI ignition pack, one have of cdi pack goes to one coil, the other half to another coil.
You can test CDI packs also, here's where it gets confusing, one half of the cdi pack can fail, and the other half can be good.

3. If you have a grounded out wire, or your ground wires are loose, broken, disconnected, no very expensive ignition part will fix anything.

4.Check every inch of wire, especially where they go into connectors or shrink tube, pull and twist every wire hard.

Check the wires on the stator. If one is burned or shorted, you will not get a spark either.

tommarvin is right on point number 3!!! My Force 90 wasn't firing on one cylinder and I learned (after much frustration and knashing of teeth) that two wire terminals coming from a pack were intermittently connecting (causing the misfire/non-fire) . Check those terminal connections FIRST. It's very easy and if you are in doubt replace and resolder the terminal (very quick and cheap to do) before you even think about replacing (expensive) electronic ignition components.
