I own a 1991 Four Winns Horizon 200 w/ a OMC Cobra 5.8L

I recently went on a week long vacation and my boat failed the first day. It died while I was driving it to our dock. I took it to a marina and they said the shifting module was shot and that particular module is obsolete. So, they re-wired it to make it work. It does work however it cuts out more often when I shift it in gear. It works but not as good as it should. Plus he said the Tacometer wont work with the wiring he had to do. Anyone hear of this or experience it? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Also, my depth finder went out later in the week. I have the in-board dash depthfinder with the transducer flush to the bottom. The fuse was popped. So I put a new fuse in at it popped right away. The marina said the unit was shot. Do I have to get a hole new depth finder system or is this a simple fix? Any advice on that would be great!

Thanks

By the way the boat issues ruined most of the vacation since thats all we were going to do all day

he's right it's obsolete... without seeing the wiring done, there's not much point in guessing about it
but he probably didn't intend for it to stall - I would call them
A company callled CDI actually makes a replacement module now for the electronic ignition Ford engines like yours - CDI part number 123-7571 - I think it's a fairly recent offering by them and their catalog shows it as a direct replacement for your original - around $100 usually -and your tach can be reconnected.

there's about 20 different brands/models of those things used over the years.
generally, yeah- you can buy a really nice colour fishfinder (and maybe even with a chartplotter built into it) for what parts for a 20 year old one go for - if available - and most are obsolete
