Hey All,
Hoping someone can help me out. The windshield wipers on my 91 Trooper stopped working. I turned them on the other day and they started out moving slowly then just stopped.

Things I have checked:

- All fuses, pulled each one looked at it and then checked each one for continuilty with my fluke ohm meter.
- Wiper Motor, pulled it and tested it with the fluke meter for ohms and continuilty. Then bench tested it with my trolling motor battery. Runs strong without any slowing down or catching

Does anyone know if these Isuzu Troopers have a relay buried somewhere that may have gone bad?

Any other thoughts?

Could be the switch has gone bad. Did you check the voltage at the motor? I'd also check the wiper arms to see if they're binding, possibly stalling the motor.

When you turned them on, Were the wipers stuck to the windshield? or moving snow from the windshield?

Sounds like you may have tripped the thermal overload in the motor, hence why it's working now.

Have you since re-installed the motor and re tested it?

In 30 years of tinkering with my own cars (i.e. not a pro but a reasonably competent amateur) I have had wipers go south four times. All were the result of rust/corrosion freezing the final drive output, never an electrical issue; those motors are incredibly robust. As p_c says, check that there is voltage at the motor and if there is, check that the arms are totally free and easy to move. The most common area for a problem is the wiper arm shaft and the housing in which it turns. You might be able to get a series of lubricants worked in and free them up, but you may have to get them apart to really free them up well.

Good luck.

Got them working!!!! :)

I am a "Boat Owner" and overlooked the obvious again. Ended up being a simple bad connetion due to corrosion. Being a "Boat owner" I should have looked at it bieng a bas connection first.

Thnak you for all the replys

I had a 1990 trooper and this site was a great help. It was made for Trooper owners but I have not been on it for a few years.
