'91 Johnson 175

I know this is a very broad question, but what symtoms would an outboard have with a faulty stator. My OB starts perfect, idles perfect and has all RPM's in neutral, kick it into gear and it won't even get on plane, absolutely no power. It's like I'm towin a dumptruck. Any ideas? Thanks and good day.

I would start by making sure the spark will jump at least 7/16" on all cyl.
You could have a bad coil or powerpack that may cause that.
When were your carbs last rebuilt?

what is your compression on all cylinders. i BELIEVE that motor also has a neutral cut out switch, to make shifting easier. it kills 1/2 the cylinders when shifting, could be stuck or bad.
