91 johnson 90 wont run

hello i have a 1991 johnson 90hp that will not run without the starter soliniod on prime which is bad im told so anyone had this happened or know the cause

I assume that you're saying that the engine starts okay BUT will not continue to run unless the primer solenoid red knob is turned to the manual flow position.

If so, put the primer solenoid back on its automatic position. Now, have someone constantly pump the fuel primer bulb, acting as a manual fuel pump. If this cures the problem, suspect a faulty fuel pump.

If it does not correct the problem, suspect clogged carburetors.

do you know what the red arm is for? it if you have to pull start.so you have a fuel delivery problem, most likly dirty carbs, if it wcs fue lpump you wouldn't even have fuel at carb for red valve to work.

yes that's what i mean ill try that out i have a vro2 pump i have disconnected the oil side unplugged wires and capped off the oil lines i mix gas . i can pump fuel bulb till hard and it wont start but i flick the solenoid to prime it fires up right away runs so i turn it back to automatic it runs for awhile then dies any other thoughts? thx

Clean the carburetors. Be sure to manually clean the brass high speed jets that are located in the bottom center portion of the float chambers with a piece of single strand steel wire. Solvent just doesn't seem to do a proper job of cleaning them.

hello i completely dissembled and cleaned everything in carbs took out jets and orifices checked floats, gaskets are good look new, i found something strange on one of the carbs the two forward idle circuit nozzles were plugged with melted metal like it was done on by someone ?? anyone know wtf that is about?? if somone has a diagram of carbs can show which nozzles i mean thx

They were filled w the intention of redrilling. Get new ones will probably be your best bet
