Hello All,
I have a 60HP Merc with what I believe is a commander shifter assembly on my Zodiac. Some time ago the ignition switch (on the shifter) broke and some of the guts fell out. I can still start the boat, but the key won't stay in. It is a "push to choke" switch so sometimes starting the boat when warm kicks in the choke. Also it shocks the bajeebers out of you if you hold the sterring wheel when shutting off. My local mechanic (who doesn't seem to want to work on it) says the disassembly of the shifter is tricky.
Should I attempt this myself, or find a new mechanic. Any hints in the Lauderdale area would be appreciated!
Thanks
John
