Re: '92 150hp Force

I've got a 1988 125HP motor that's been running like a champ for the past 4 years. Very basic motor. Easy to fix. Parts are not too expensive when compared to the newer models. Only drawback with parts is that you cannot go down to your local marina and purchase parts. These motors went out of production in the late 1990's. There are plenty of replacement parts available on line. Horsepower rating may not be on par with similar rated models from other manufacturers, but it's adequate for my use. One thing I have to say, if you are depending on a marine mechanic to perform routine maintenance or repairs, forget it. Bottom line is I have no problems with mine.

Re: '92 150hp Force

I have a '92 150 Force and I have no issues at all. It runs great and pushes my Starcraft very well. Yea I've replaced the starter and had to rebuild carbs and work on tilt/trim but any other outboard will need the same things.
Force outboards have a bad rep because they came factory on cheaper starter boats, namely Bayliners. That doesn't mean Bayliners are junk or Force outboards are garbage. I'm not convinced that these engines were well taken care of based on the fact that the starter boat folks just may not have understood the need for regular maintenance of both the boats and motors.
The other issue is they were made by Chrysler, then Force, then Mercury so you may have a hard time figuring out exactly what part is needed. This is especially true if you get an in-between engine, ie; Force block with Merc lower end. Alot of shops/mechanics don't/won't/ work on them because of the above issue. Bottom line they are just as easy to work on as the other older outboards and if you take care of it, like anything else, it should be fairly trouble free.

Re: '92 150hp Force

Anything positive about the force motors?
Junk?

Simple design, easy to work on, a lot of folks don't like them so you can pick them up fairly cheap. Please don't listen to the so called "experts" that belittle Chrysler/Force outboards. It's real easy to criticize something and go along with the crowd. Personally, I love it when someone talks smack about my old Chrysler 70hp...kinda like Nebraska football, if I have to explain you'd never understand...
