Hi Folks,

My outboard nearly fires up once after a long rest. I checked the spark (on one plug) at it looked good. I had a leak in the fuel line (bulb wouldn't get hard) and fixed that. I can hear the "choke" click when I push the key in. However, unless I leave the engine alone for a while it just cranks. It doesn't smell like it is flooding, and the carbs have gas in the float bowls. Next I'm going to check each spark plug for spark and "sniff" the cylinders to see if it smells flooded.

Any other advice?

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Folks,

I pulled the plugs and they were wet, so I assume the motor was flooded. I picked up some new plugs and checked for spark on all 3, they look ok.

The sun is bright, so I'm not sure I can tell if it's a "strong" spark, but they all spark evenly as best I can tell. I also checked compression on all cylinders and they were all good (~115 PSI). Put the new plugs in, primed up the bulb, and same result. Engine attempt to fire briefly, then nothing. Pulled the top plug and it was a little wet and sooty near the edge.

I'm using fresh gas in remote tank w/ 50:1 mix as I replaced the injector oil lines yesterday and the air is still working out. I replaced those lines since the original ones fell apart as I was removing the oil injection tank to get to the fuel filter.

I think I will pull the plugs again, drain the float bowls, and crank the engine a bit, just in case it is flooded down in the crankcase. I'm not sure if this will change anything, as it seems I am still facing my original problem with no changes. I am beginning to think I have some intermittent electrical problem, or a carbeurator problem. The boat was sitting for approximately 2 months since last use, and it ran fine last time out.

Thanks in advance for any tips anyone may have!

Regards,

Joe

Hi Folks,

Another update. Engine is definetly flooding. After tilting engine up w/ throttle wide open to ensure carbs were fully drained I was able to start the engine without priming the bulb or using the choke. It idled roughly though up until it drew enough fuel that the top carb overflowed. I could see gas begin to pour out of the "jet?" in the carb throat and run down the outside of the carbs before it flooded out. So at this point I think I have a sticky float in the top carbuerator. Time to read up on how best to fix that.

Re: 92 60 HP 2 Stroke Won't Start

Hi Folks,

Well I didn't get any input or help from anyone, but chalk that up to the fact that 9 out of 10 people here are like me and looking for help. My problem as best I can tell was a stuck or dirty needle valve. I cleaned the upper carb, reinstalled, ran w/ the remote tank since I also changed the oil injector lines, and everything seems good now. Heading out to the lake for a test drive as soon as I can. If problems continue I will post again. Hopefully this will help someone else down the road.

Joe

ill chime in to say....you have a positive attitude and seem to keep figureing things out for yourself, cuz you're right most people on here have more questions than input. which can be very fustrating at time. Either way good job. this info helped me.

Re: 92 60 HP 2 Stroke Won't Start

Well I took my 4 year old fishing after work and it ran like a champ. I'm still running from the premix tank to be safe, although I can see the air has left the clear oil injector lines there is still some fuel line and a T, so to be safe I'll run the whole 2 gallons and be rich instead of lean.

All in all not bad, spent way more time finding the problem than fixing it. I hope someone finds this beneficial.
