Hi Folks,

In troubleshooting a fuel starvation problem I stumbled across (or created) another. I pulled out my oil injector tank to get to the fuel filter and the intake line basically crumbled apart and needs to be replaced. Things are so tight I think the only way to do this is to remove the oil pump, so I can properly change out the lines. However, if you think servicing the lines is tight, the oil pump seems even worse as it seems nearly impossible to get a screw driver on it due to the bottom cowling being so high.
Anyone have any idea on the proper method of removing the oil pump (or if that is what I should do)? I guess I'm somewhat "happy" the line came apart here at the house, and not while out on the lake resulting in major engine damage.

Thanks,

Joe

Re: 92 60HP Merc Oil Pump Removal

Hi Everyone,

I replaced the lines to the Oil Pump and from the Oil Pump to the Fuel line w/ Vinyl line from ACE hardware. I then mixed up 50:1 gas in my kicker tank, primer it up but still can't get it running. After cranking it a bit, at least the air is almost worked out of the injection system.

I thought my original problem was due to the fact the primer bulb didn't get hard. I fixed that, bad line connection to the tank, but still can't start the motor.

First question, is the Vinyl tubing from Ace OK for this application?

Second, It has spark, and will almost start when I shoot in starting fluid or gas directly, but only one time, or when I let it sit for while. Basically it seems to try and fire once and thats it. Float bowls have fuel too, but it doesn't smell flooded after cranking if I don't put fuel directly in the intakes.

Rgds,

Joe
