'92 70hp evinrude still won't idle?!

2 days now on and off and I still can't get this thing right. I've rebuilt carbs including floats and I've done the lync and sync twice. I've put the mixture screws back to where the manuel says to put them after removal.
The motor will start and run with the fast idle lever up on the remote control. As soon as the fast idle lever is pushed down it stalls. I look at this thing and know I'm close but need some direction. The idle timing thing is confusing me! Motor is in a tank of water for back-pressure.
Also, even with the fast idle lever up it's only reviving at about 2000rpm. It use to screem until I would push it down, seems at this point to be alot of play in the cable.

Check the idle timing. If it is too high, it won't idle properly. These are notorious for shaking at idle. Mine idles ok about 1050. Make sure all of the butterflys are closed at idle. If one is slightly open, it won't idle. The idle screws on these are frustrating. You only turn them a small amount, then wait 30 seconds to see if the idle has changed. It will take you a while to complete idle screw adjustments.

have you check spark on all 3? did you disconnect throttle cable, when you did link n sinc, and then readjust?

yes I have spark on all three and yes I removed the throttle cable during lync and sync. I just can't seem to hit on the problem.

Been chasing this same problem for a while on an '81 50, I redid the carbs AGAIN paying special attention to the supply tube for the idle jet(small tube inside the tube) and apparently that was it.

Used copper wire, deep creep and compressed air like you blow your computer out with, just had it idling like it used to, finnally, sweet music it is, unless your one of my neighbors.

Being a fixxed jet the amount of fuel is set so all you can do is make the timing matchs the fuel, if that can't be done it is probably a fuel issue still.

I feel your pain though having chased this for a couple weeks.
