I have a 1992 75 horse suzuki that will not idle and has no power. I took the boat out and it ran fine at full throttle for 20 minutes or so. I cranked it back up and headed home and it kept dying and had no power. I went through the carbs and they were super clean and also changed the plugs. Took it back out after filling up with fresh fuel and still having the problem. All cylinders are firing but when i pulled the plugs out the second time the middle plug was wet/ fouled with gas.

hello
first is test compression, then test spark. that suzuki has a throttle sensor that controls timing. so you will have to load the motor and check ign timing advace. check the fuel pump diaphram. also check the fuel system vacum at the pump inlet. or use a remote tank connected directly to the engine filter inlet. do you have the monitor gauge? does your alarm horn work and has it been tested recently?

but check the compression and get back with us.
do not rev the motor with no load to check ign advance.

it will not stay running while in gear to check the timing and it will not idle. when i check the spark using a screw driver it jumped a quarter inch gap. is it possible that the motor lost a cylinder being that one spark plug was fouled. i have not tested the alarm horn nor do i know if it works, i have only onwed the boat for 6 days. i am also wondering is this a common problem, if so maybe i can check some of the common fixes

test the compression first. pull the stop switch so you dont have uncontroled spark. a compression tester at wally world is only about 20 dollars

all cyl should be within 10 psi. test that first before chasing anything else

no compression in the middle cylinder. is this common. what can cause this and how can i make sure this does not happen again. the motor has very little hours on it, it seems to have been setting up for a while. could it be bad gas, my mechanic says that it setting up could cause the ring to stick or break. i guess what i am asking is what can i do to keep this from happening again or what all needs to be replaced other than the engine rebuild to keep it running for a while.

time for scrap or rebuild. most likly caused by a clogged carb. the timing on that motor is not adjustable once set. its controlled by the throttle sensor. or it could have over heated due to a dry rotted impellor or a bad t-stat. all are maint items any time a motor sits more than 6 months or so. some people get lucky and others dont. make sure your mechanic is a certified suzuki repair facility. if he is not you may wish to send the power head to some one who is. the crank is a built up design and has a procedure for testing the rod big end end play.
