I found this one tonight, i have a spare merc 50 from the 1st boat i purchased... figured it would get me around long enough to get in the water this summer... Guy said i can check it out, and might take an atv (only cost me 450.00) But what you guys think the boat here would be worth if its decent shape ?

I had the cuddy cabin version of that boat years ago It was a great little boat only problem was the 90 force o/b which was the worst motor I ever owned attatched to it so if the force is gone you are way ahead of the game with that boat. I would say it's probably worth 500-600 dollars if it isn't rotted out. the 50 will probably be a little under powered though.

like S1 said, the price is high and I'd be surprised if the wood was in good condition. Consider it a big project unless you inspect it very close for rot.

you have been told what to look for, controls, may or may not work with your motor.

That boat was most likely originally equipped with a 50 so your motor should be fine (assuming you have controls, as mentioned above). Be aware, this was a bottom of the line, entry level boat. As such it may not have been well maintained and could be loaded with rot. If it checks out, it could be a fun toy. Definitely not worth anywhere near $950 though.

The only "red flag" I got from reading the ad is that the upholstery has cracks "here and there". That is a sign that the boat has sat outside uncovered. Not a good situation. Also check for rotten transom, should be easy in that boat. Just look under the splashwell and probe the transom with an ice pic or awl to check for soft spots, especially near the bottom. Also, becasue the motor is off, you can probe the motor mounting bolt holes to see if water was leaking in around them (very common on outboard boats). And those controls probably will not work with your merc.

I think its over priced, if it checks out good, offer $600 and try to get it for $800.

BTW, bring a floor jack and jack up each trailer wheel, spin it and listen for a low rumble. Thats the sign of worn/rusty bearings. Figure about $30 a wheel for bearings and seals. And check the tires for cracks and dry rot. At this age, they could use replacing. Trailer tires rarely wear out, they "age" out. Can't tell from the pics, but if it has a white nylon rope on the winch, it should be replaced for a strap winch.

The photos, though small and can't see detail, look like the vinyl is in decent shape, so maybe "a few cracks" is true in this case - it's usually not. So, if you feel like screwing around figuring out controls, etc for a motor, then maybe it's an OK boat for you to get running cheaply.

Unfortunately for the seller, it's just not worth anyhting to most boat buyers. Maybe trading for the $450 ATV or whatever is fair. Obviously, check the stuff already mentioned here first. Rotted transom and/or stringers and it's actually worth less than $0 .

'92? as in 1992?
Respectfully, that is not a 1992 Bayliner model. That model is a mid to late 80's.
Some of the quick giveaways are the upholstery colour and the gauge package, let alone the hull design.;)
In 1990 Bayliner was quite a different looking boat with colour schemes. By 1992 the colour scheme was quite a bit different particularly in the upholstery...the pastel era was definitely over.
However if you like the boat and it proves to have a sound floor and transom use this age discrepancy to buy yourself wiggle room on the price. Like Mark says...try him around $600 or so.
Good Luck, keep us posted.

To have a fiberglass boat here by me broke up and run thru a chipper and scrapped cost the owner 400 dollars.

The only thing is worth anything is the trailer with that boat.

He should pay you to tow it away.

No motor it's worth less then nothing.

50 hp motor ain't gonna push that boat on plane.

You pull up the floor i bet it's all rotten in there.

[first post, long time reader...]

I had nearly that exact boat years ago, except mine was an '89 with a 50hp Force. It was setup with the fish and ski package and was a good little boat. It is a small 16 footer, more like 15.5' max. 50hp will certainly plane the boat, mine would do low 30's according to the speedo. Granted, you'd be looking at the sky for a little while. It'd certainly pull a tube, and could do a light skier that can hold their breath. Mine was rated for 50hp max.

The hull itself was pretty solid, but the plastic trim was really cheap. There where two Lexan windows that tended to crack. Looks like that boat only has one left. (Make sure you have your tarp propped up off of them if you'll get any snow on it, that'd surely break the windows)

That price is too high, but I'd check it out just to see if it the boat is solid or not.
