I have a 92 bayliner capri. Has a real nice 4.3 that I built. Boat still has the original 14x19 prop on it. I mainly pull towables, skier ans knee board but having a fast boat is also great being a racer lol. Had a 4blade 14x19 vortex and can't complain other then a rock got ahold of it. Been looking at a turning point hustler 14x21. Drive is 1.84 ratio. Motor makes plenty of power and will turn as much rpm as I can give it unless the outdrive don't like it. Any input is great as im kind of new to the boating stuff!!!!

Your motor's full throttle operating range is 4400-4800 rpm.

What rpm is it turning now with the 19 pitch prop? You need a base line in order to determine which way to go.

If you read there stickys at the top of the prop forum it may help some.
What size is the Capri? They start at 14ft. I don't recall ever seeing that ratio on a 4.3.
Seems very close to 3.0 numbers. Though I suppose a really heavy boat might have something like that.
We need a lightly loaded wot rpm and speed by gps. Remind us of the prop size.

Sorry boat is a 17ft. 2 adults 3 kids. It will turn 4800 all day, getting ready to put a edelbrock 4barrel intake and carb on. Thinking it will turn 5500 or so with the added air flow to engine. Best wot speed is 39mph with gps. Current prop is a 14x19 3blade. I can't aford to have a hole selection of props laying around to try.

I couldn't find a 17ft I/O but in my opinion a 4.3 in a 17ft even with 5 passengers should be over revving with speeds over 40.
Are you sure about your ratio?
A 17 footer with a 4.3 would usually run about a 23" pitch for speed and make 50 or above.
Unless the motor is built especially for high rpm it won't last long at 5500.

Re: 92 bayliner capri prop

Motor is well built, forged pistons nice roller cam good valve train and springs balanced crank. I had a vortex 14x19and and own same but 3blade. It seems as I can easily over power both and make them cavitate on hole shot. Motor was built for power from idle to 5500. Really want to get a 14x21 4blade to hustler. I haven't actually measured the boat just going off what add said when I bought it.

If you really are blowing the props out on takeoff then in my opinion the drive ratio needs to be changed to the range of 1.5 or so. With the power your engine seems to have there is too much torque multiplication with the 1.8 ratio in my view.
