Hi, I'm new to this forum. It appears to be very informative with many great minds participating. . I have a 1992 Force outboard with dual port exhaust, The motor over heats running it with the hose on the earmuffs and runs fine for awhile in the water, actually running wide open for 10 minutes or more then overheats. Will run some more then overheats. So it seems sporadic. Anyway my mechanical friend and I dismantled the lower unit (the new gear oil was light-brown milky looking) to replace the impeller and all and thought we should replace the seals around the prop shaft, and I believe we may have gone too far getting up to the "spool". So here we are - lower unit off and disassembled to, and including the "spool". The 1st issue is I don't see that part spool or bearings) anywhere I've searched online. We may need the "spool" and all seals and rings from there out to the prop. Where can I find the parts? Since I'm at this point should I do anything else with the lower unit now (I plan to replace the impeller)? How about the seal/gasket around teh shift rod? I know this is a long post but in addition, the boat is used in salt water was used once last summer, was not used the prior 2 years. What other parts should be replaced/checked? T=stet, any fuel parts ? and my last question for now ? what is the small rubber hose that runs from the lower unit along with the control cables? Speed sensor? It?s starting to rot at the connector near the transom. I know this is a lot to ask but if you could point me in the right direction and provide a little guidance, It would really help. Thanks in advance.

Where in the Chesapeake area do you live? I am near Philadelphia (West Chester) and would love to get my hands on a dual exhaust lower unit just to see what makes it tick. I would check it out for free and tell you what parts you need. If you are close enough to come to West Chester. Or lacking that, next week I intend to be on the upper Chesapeake during the weekday. if you have a radio, shout up Amanda Ford on channel 16.
