We took it out yesterday and it was running great! It idles great and all seemed fine... That is till a boat passed us with flyng colors and I noticed he had a 15HP *** well. Since the motor runs great it has to be the high speed jet right? As a side note I just bought it and the guy took out the thermostat cause it was bad... Could that affect the performance that much? Thanks

What size prop. Do you have and do a compression and spark test on both cylinders. Post what you get.

Thermo not a problem.Jet not a problem.Same boat?Size and weight.
Do a compression.spark test.My neighbor ran for a year with one plug wire unhooked.Said the motor ran great.Quite a different motor after the plug was firing again.
The prop could be the problem. These don't have a tach so you need to figure out the rpm's at wot. Tiny Tach is a good item to have in your tool box.

Prop. sounds ok. Do a spark test on both cylinders and comp. test and post what you get. These motors will seem to run well on only one cylinder. I use my 15 gamefisher on my 19 ft Maxum and it pushes my boat around no problem. Used for trolling of course.

Ok the compression was 124 and 125. Has great spark... But the 1 of the plugs was soaked with gas the other bone dry.

I got new plugs for it. Does anybody think that might fix it?

that would seem to be a draw back to speed, a 9p on a 15hp...depending on gear ratio....kind of points to a power prop to push a heavy boat, your outboard may have been setup as a kicker once upon a time, I would guess the other guy was running a 12p-13p
