Hello everyone!
I recently threw a rod on my 1992 Johnson 60hp 2 stroke 3 cyl. I'm trying to determine my options for repair/replacement.
I know very little about boats and outboards, but am very mechanically inclined otherwise.
The boat was given to me by my grandfather, and it has been sitting up for years (5+).
Me and a buddy put a lot of time and money into getting it ready for the water, and it threw a rod on our second day on the water.
Rebuilt carbs, new plugs, new thermostat. Tested the VRO pump and confirmed it was oiling to spec.
I've been trying to find a used power head or even a replacement johnson 60hp, but I haven't had much luck. I'm not sure what my options are at this point.
The motor is on a 1992 Stratos 254, 15.5 ft bass boat. I know it says not to put anything bigger than a 90hp.
Any advice is much appreciated! Since this is a family boat, and I'm new to boating, I was really hoping I could get it up and running without breaking the bank. I was going to use this boat to learn the "ropes" and possibly upgrade to a bigger boat next year. I'm not interested in fishing, just cruising around with friends.
